November, 2015: Syconium Lactic Acid GmbH, a spin-off of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), reached position 76 out of the approximately 1.000 applicants in annual GEWINN young entrepreneurs award 2015. October, 2015: aws Seedfinancing provides funding through a conditionally repayable grant. The objective is promotion of the founding and building of innovative high-tech enterprises. The offer is addressed to enterprises from all high-tech areas with a special focus on information and communication technology (ICT), Physical Science, and Life Sciences.
Syconium Lactic Acid GmbH ist im best of biotech Businessplan Wettbewerb 2015 mit dem 3.Platz ausgezeichnet worden
Mai, 2015: Insgesamt 30 eingereichte Projekte mit wirtschaftlichem Potenzial stellten sich dem Votum der Fachjury. Die im Auftrag des BMWFW von der Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) durchgeführte Start-up Initiative setzt sich zum Ziel, die wirtschaftliche Nutzung von Forschungsergebnissen anzukurbeln, um so mit zukunftsweisenden Ideen den Wirtschaftsstandort Österreich zu stärken.
Syconium Lactic Acid GmbH hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, mittels innovativer biotechnologischer Ansätze ein kommerziell erfolgreiches Verfahren zur Herstellung reiner isomerer Formen der D- und L-Milchsäure zu entwickeln und zu vermarkten. Die Kombination spezifisch genetisch modifizierter Hefestämme, mit einem auf die metabolischen Eigenschaften dieser Produktionsorganismen abgestimmten hoch effizienten Fermentationsverfahren, hat das Potential einen neuen Standard für die industrielle Produktion von Milchsäure zu setzen.
Syconium Lactic Acid GmbH ist ein spin off der Universität für Bodenkultur Wien und arbeitet in enger Kooperation mit den Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib).

aws Best of Biotech ist ein internationaler Businessplan Wettbewerb mit Fokus auf Life Sciences, organisiert von der Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft. Der Wettbewerb wird zusammen mit den AplusB-Zentren (Gründerzentren österreichischer Universitäten) sowie internationalen Partnern durchgeführt. Finanziell wird aws Best of Biotech durch Roche Austria GmbH, BINDER GRÖSSWANG Rechtsanwälte GmbH, AFFiRiS AG, Plattform LISAvienna, Standortagentur Tirol, Baxter Healthcare GmbH sowie ERBER Group unterstützt. Aus den bisherigen Wettbewerbsrunden gingen bereits 77 Unternehmensgründungen hervor. Insgesamt wurden rund 256.000 Euro Preisgeld ausgeschüttet.
